I've got a tip for all Lever Sisters: when cooking on-camera, don't pinch up your whole face as if the cat just used its litter box on the other side of the counter and then didn't cover up.

(L) Yeah, you could get "petals" to look like that using only diluted cream cheese and a spoon. By the way, Kraft has enclosed a coupon good for 50 cents off your next purchase of swampland in South Jersey. (R) That clam dip might not be bad, though the seasonings are pretty intense for the time period. Probably that was a snack you only brought out in the small hours for the serious partygoers, long after the kids were safely in bed.

(L) The chocolate-pear combo is definitely still in vogue. I've seen it in a couple of fancy pastry shops. (R) "Peppermint Patty" is both the candy AND the vanilla-flavored tart with the candy dropped into it! Trippy!

The "Brittle" is actually puffed rice + raisins + some syrupy stuff. It sounds like it might be edible. I decided to pass on sharing the raisin gelatin molds, sandwiches, and salads, though. Life is too short.

Yet another discovery/rescue from the dollar shelf of yet another thrift store. Front and spine of a dust jacket, from a 210-page hardback published by Spring Books, London, England. (To see it in better condition, go here .)

B&W Ads, 1951

Floating pancakes, disembodied gams, the Thanksgiving ad appearing after Thanksgiving, AND the decidedly unregimented appearance of those tart shells! It's chaos, I tell you! Chaos! From the December 6th issue of Western Family magazine. P.S. - Wishing a "Lucky '13" to the dude from Washington (State), The Damn Mushroom.
