The neo-Cubist fish is adorable. Plus, it's nice to see the dog lined up next to the kids, since you know they're going to be passing him any number of these "goodies" the second Mom's back is turned.
But I couldn't find a recipe to match the freaky ring-mold thing at the right of the full-color photograph. I feel lucky.

The structures look so imposing, and yet the coloring looks so pretty! That's what I love most about this school of commercial illustration.

There are a lot of really nice illustrations in here. No artist's name given, unfortunately.

Even some of those "live forever through healthy eating" cookbooks still insist that I peel the potatoes. But I almost never do. Even potato soup is fine with the peels still in. That's what food processors are for. :D

Okay, I admit it. I love the Deco-like stylings of these pages. The bright yellow and blue, the "capsule" shapes. The ham's line and color take it about two steps away from being a still life by Gauguin.

Stuffed peppers?! <3 <3 That baby-faced "come hither" look is completely unnecessary, My Dear!

Front of a promotional fold-out published by... well, you know. Sorry if these images take forever to load. I wanted so much for the Miracle™ to be seen in its full, unclipped (possibly maiden) glory.

Yeah, I know. At this point, mocking vintage Lenten concoctions is like shooting empty tuna cans in a recycling bin...
But-- Great Dog Almighty! That poor gutted pepper... it looks more like a melted hunk of candle than like any vegetable I've ever seen...

I really like the illustrations here, and considering this was still WWII, the quantity and color is pretty lavish. Mmmm... plateful of mystery veggie, followed by a gooseberry-currant jam sundae...? Maybe...?

"Thumbnail" illustrations clipped from an article by Mary B. Stevenson. I blew these up to show detail, and did some Photoshop touch-ups that (hopefully) don't intrude on the original style too much.

I love these illustrations, and I'm sad they're not credited. But I still prefer my 7up as the good Lord made it: In a glass, with nothing added but some ice and maybe a straw.
