English's Choice Antiques Postcard, c1980

19 Sep 2023 2 2 116
"English's Choice Antiques. Rt. 1, Box 299, Hiway 99E, Hubbard, Oregon, 97032, Phone 981-9821. Estates bought and sold. Furniture, old glass, china, lamps, brass, etc. OLD TREASURES YOU'D LIKE TO LIVE WITH. Closed Monday & Tuesday. Techniphoto. Henry McGrew Printing, K.C. Mo., 61038, Action Color Adv., 2502 SE Belmont, Portland, Ore., 234-3689. I did some research, but couldn't find any history of this shop or the folks who ran it, alas. So the date range is just a guess. There's no phone area code listed, and Oregon got its first one in 1947. But this card looks much more recent than that. Anyway, off to the more important stage: turning it into a pixel-art game where a cat raids the shop and you have to distract them before they can break everything. :D Slightly enlarged to show detail.

Last-minute substitutions for the May 4th celebration. My Star Wars plates and placemats were still stuck in a warehouse somewhere! Always order early, Fans! ;)

Looks like coffee was still too common in those days to merit its own tribute panel, but the designs are great, nonetheless. From House Beautiful magazine.

Make the kids' footwear double as scarves, paint the storage shed, start an earring business, tithe to the Canadian Empire, con an omnivore into avoiding meat... Wow! It's been a busy day! Clipped from the February issue of Good Housekeeping magazine.

"...I believe sincerely that baking (all cooking, in fact) should be made fun rather than work..." After all, the war's over and you can't expect to be paid wages anymore, Suckers.

I bet that "Sugared Coffee Toast" was good for clearing unwanted visitors out in a big hurry. From Good Housekeeping magazine.

Each of these lovely serving pieces also comes with a matching lighter and ashtray. Except the chafing dish, because it's already lit and doubles as an ash receptacle after all the "Diable" is consumed. From Good Housekeeping magazine.
