The road (SP105) between Alghero and Bosa follows a spectacular coastline. There are not many beaches, but some pretty breathtaking cliffs.

This park, just northwest of Alghero, exists since 1999 and covers more than 5000 ha. Seen from here are the Torre del Bollo, an ancient watchtower, on the hill in the center and in the backdrop the Capo Caccia to the left and the Isola Foradada to the right.

Alghero is a popular tourist resort, but in early June the season has not yet started and there is still much of space on the beaches, that are in walking distance from the old city. The tower of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria can be seen on the horizon.

After having defeated the Saracens, the Genoese Doria family developed the settlement into a fortified port town by 1102. Apart from two years under the rule of Pisa, the Dorias ruled Alghero upto 1353, when it was taken by the Aragonese troops under Bernardo de Cabrera. After several revolts the Genoese and indigenous Sardinian population were expelled, and Catalan colonists settled here. That ´s why the Catalan language is co-official in Alghero, as still 22% of the population speak "Algherese Catalan" as a first language. The Alghero Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of Alghero-Bosa. Construction work started in the 1530s. It was consecrated about 200 years later in 1730.
