Dolmen de Chantebrault IV

23 Oct 2024 1 14
The west-east facing dolmen is the most important of the nine monuments that existed near Chantebrault. It is over ten metres long, two metres wide and consists of fifteen preserved orthostats and two ceiling slabs. It was largely covered by vegetation and was excavated between 2015 and 2018. The dolmen attracted the curiosity of archaeologists due to its architecture and the original use of stones. This impression was confirmed by architectural and technological studies, which led to the conclusion that only an excavation could confirm the various assumptions. This was done with the support of the French Prehistoric Society (spf). Chantebrault IV is the first example of a gallery tomb with lateral access south of the Loire. At the same time, the quality and quantity of artefacts found despite the looted excavations are very valuable.

Jazz à Vienne - Pat Metheny

"Jazz à Vienne" offers 250 concerts per year, 1,000 artists and 200,000 festival visitors. The 42nd edition took place from 28 June to 13 July 2023. Pat Metheny was one of my personal guitar heroes in the 1970s. He began playing guitar at the age of twelve and at 14 he won a guitar competition sponsored by the jazz magazine "Down Beat". At 18, he became a guitar lecturer at the University of Miami, and a year later at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Pat Metheny has been honoured many times for his achievements as a guitarist, composer and producer. He has received 20 Grammy Awards, among others. His style can develop in every conceivable direction, from bebop to free jazz to Brazilian vibes, but he always plays it perfectly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0YnE7lZQfc

The American soul/jazz singer and pianist Norah Jones is the daughter of Sue Jones and the Indian-Bengali musician Ravi Shankar, whom the older generation may still remember. She has been extremely successful since the early 2000s, releasing nine solo albums and winning numerous awards, including nine Grammy Awards. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaZek_SlZA0

"Jazz à Vienne" offers 250 concerts per year, 1,000 artists and 200,000 festival visitors. The 42nd edition took place from 28 June to 13 July 2023. The charismatic blues and soul singer Mavis Staples can look back on a music career spanning over 70 years. As early as 1952, she was a member of the Staple Singers around her father, the gospel singer Pops Staples. Thanks to his friendship with Martin Luther King Jr., the Staples Singers became the musical mouthpiece of the civil rights movement. Mavis Staples has worked with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Prince and Ry Cooder and has been honoured with three Grammys. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqCpZIBwiSc

"Jazz à Vienne" offers 250 concerts per year, 1,000 artists and 200,000 festival visitors. The 42nd edition took place from 28 June to 13 July 2023. Joe Bonamassa is an extraordinary guitarist who began his career as a child prodigy and was already on stage at the age of 12 when he opened for B.B. King in 1989. He is known for his great collaborations with Beth Hart. He is a truly influential blues rock musician who (fun fact!) in his suit looks like a serious insurance salesman with sunglasses on stage. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub3aYXrLCcc

Jazz à Vienne - Faada Freddy

"Jazz à Vienne" offers 250 concerts per year, 1,000 artists and 200,000 festival visitors. The 42nd edition took place from 28 June to 13 July 2023. I heard Faada Freddy for the first time in Beauvais in 2016. His first CD "Gospel Journey" had been released at the time. The acapella group he had formed had a fabulous swing and the music was truly intoxicating. After that, I experienced the group him several times. They did not lost the groove! After five years, Faada Freddy was back on stage - with his old vigour! www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdyAawzdFNU

Jazz à Vienne - Marcus Miller

"Jazz à Vienne" offers 250 concerts per year, 1,000 artists and 200,000 festival visitors. The 42nd edition took place from 28 June to 13 July 2023. Marcus Miller is "the man with the hat" on stage. I heard an interview in which he said that he is hardly recognised on the street without a hat. Decades ago Marcus Miller already accompanied Miles Davis with his dynamic bass style and still has that special groove at over 60 years of age. Unfortunately, the mobile phone photo is bad, but cameras are not allowed in Vienne www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAMFqnNwcPU

Vienne - Notre Dame de Pipet

30 Apr 2023 67
The oppidum of the Celtic Alobroges became a Roman colony about 47 BC under Julius Caesar, but the Allobroges managed to expel the Romans. The exiles moved north and founded the colony of Lugdunum (today's Lyon). During the early Empire, Vienna regained all its former privileges as a Roman colony. The city flourished and became the second capital of southern Gaul during the Roman Empire. The first Christians lived in Vienne around 100 AD. In the 3rd century, the city became a bishopric. After the death of the childless last Burgundian king Rudolf III. Vienne fell in 1032 to the German king Conrad II and thus to the Holy Roman Empire. In the 12th century, Vienne became the capital of the Dauphiné. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Vienne experienced an economic boom, numerous houses were built in the half-timbered style of the time, and the cathedral was completed. During the Wars of Religion, the city was fought over and frequently looted. At the top of "Mount Pipet" overlooking Vienne was a sacred area with temples. The Kings of Burgundy converted the site into a fortress, which was donated to the Church of Vienne in 1023. In 1633, Cardinal Richelieu ordered the destruction of all the fortresses in the Dauphiné by decree. In the 19th century, after the French Revolution, this hill was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In 1858 the tower with the statue was built and in 1873 the construction of a chapel in honor of Our Lady of La Salette was completed. This includes, of course, a small alter, the Marian apparition of 1846.

In 1311/1312 the "Council of Vienne" took place here. Pope Clement V, who was bullied by Philip IV of France, withdrew papal support for the Knights Templar - and dissolved the order. The construction of St. Maurice Cathedral, which took more than 400 years, began in the 12th century. The choir was rebuilt in the 13th century. In the Gothic period, four bays were added and the nave was raised and arched. There are 59 (!) Romanesque capitals in St. Maurice Cathedral, carved in the late 12th century. Harrowing Hell The descent of Christ into Hell refers to the period of time between the Crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection. In descent, Christ brought salvation to the souls held captive there since the beginning of the world.
