San Bartolomé is the oldest church of Logroño. The construction dates back to the 12th century. Though it got altered largely in the 16th century, the Romanesque structure is still visible. The wonderful porch was created in the 13th century.
During the time of "La Desamortización", when mid 19th century many monastic properties got sold, and the church was used as a warehouse and workshop. It was even discussed to demolish the building.
The porch was created in the 13th century. The upper part dates back to the 16th century, but the builders saved the old tympanum, which found a new place. Where the tympanum once was is now a window.
I have already uploaded many photos taken on previous visits, so I will add just a few. Many more are in the Album "La Rioja" especialy details of this portal

Below the large vignettes themed about Saint Bartholomew's life and death are small, very nice scenes. Here are two strange and weathered mermaids. The right one is fighting her colleague with a sword. The left one has a very nice tail, but the upper body seems completely lost. This one even has two legs. A very rare species!

The tail of the mermaid got lost (maybe there were two tails). She wears a nice girdle and may be hunting. She just caught the second fish with her right hand. Her facial expression is either shows high concentration - or unhappiness.

Joseph of Arimathea takes the body of Jesus down from the cross. A 13th century legend tells, that Joseph in his old age travelled to England and buried the Holy Grail in Glastonbury.

Genesis 3:23-24
"So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life."

The church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew, one of the 12 apostle, who as the legend tells was a missionary to Persia, India, Egypt and Armenia, where he was martyred. Bartholomew was tortured. In the scene here he is gets skinned. The three female figures holding the table stand for lust (Luxuria!), vanity (hat) and laziness
Further right (dead) Bartolomew preaches to a crowd. He carries his own skin on the shoulder. The skin of an arm and a hand are near the knee.

Early morning in the small village of Oloriz. The parish church San Bartolomé was erected within the 12th century and altered some centuries later. As the church was locked, I could only take some photos of the exterior. On of the corbels depicts a musician, playing a "dolio", an instrument that must have been popular in Northern Spain during the 12th century.
Ray ("adfinem") has some information about this instrument:
