A further, significant rise in wholesale gas prices. This is happening at a time when the more vulnerable members of the UK population are already under a great deal of financial stress. Some of those on fixed incomes will be faced with the choice of "heat or eat", they will not be able to afford both. If we get a period of seriously cold weather there are going to be fatalities - as a direct result of government failures. . . Not my Image ; Fair Use & public information.

A total of 22 [+ 1] energy companies have gone bust since 1st September 2021 [to 30th November 2021] Note :- the +1 is "Bulb Energy" which is in a form of special administration as a preventative measure against insolvency. The root cause has been the excessive increases in gas prices, which because of fixed price deals & various regulations can't be passed on to the consumer [therefore the supplier spends more than their income and goes bust]. . . In the second half of 2021, there was an almost exponential growth in the UK's gas prices - at a time when the use of fossil fuels was increasingly under scrutiny. Unfortunately, changes in infrastructure are neither quick nor inexpensive. I use LPG for heating & some cooking ... and have seen a similar rate of price rises. . The first six casualties of the almost exponential inflation in gas prices in late 2021 [September]. . Caused by fixed pricing schemes & capped increases preventing the suppliers passing on the raised costs of buying gas on the wholesale market to their customers. . .
