SoS[25] - single crocus

08 Mar 2025 4 2 23
Spotted this lonely crocus in one of the grassed areas of the car park at Glenridding. A very welcome sight ! {I usually fail with crocus corms, as certain little animals eat them, when I try to naturalise them in open ground in my garden}

IBB[25] - spring flowers

Approaching "FellBites" - our chosen venue for lunch - this patch of spring flowers was making a brave show ...

SoS[25] - verge 'drops {2 of 2} & daffs

07 Feb 2025 1 22
A few years ago, a lot of snowdrop "slips" [side shoot bulbs] were planted along this greensward / verge. This year there is quite a show, as this closer view shows ! [maybe I'll do a bit of transplanting after flowering has finished]. Look closely, just in front of the wall, and you will be able to see the daffodils making a start on their 2025 appearance.

This year there is quite a show [maybe I'll do a bit of transplanting after flowering has finished]. The other thing I need to do is spread out the molehills, there's always a few at this time of year, but the sheer number in 2025 has been staggering - there are, probably, over 200 just in this section. Before we get the lawnmower out !

gdn[ip] - spring growth, 2025

07 Feb 2025 4 2 34
The 2025 spring growth has begun ... Give it a few more days / a week or so and we'll cut back the old growth, and possibly collect a few seeds. I am thinking about dividing the original plant - the repotting involved will encourage extra steams and flowers.

SoS[25] - January daffs {2 of 2}

Close-up view --- One of our spring traditions is a regular supply of shop-bought daffodils, to brighten up the place before our home-grown ones break out into flower. [Currently, the leaves coming up are less than 3" high, even on the earliest plants]

SoS[25] - outside clump

31 Jan 2025 20
The earliest clump of snowdrops to flower this year. As it is in a bit of a suntrap and a south-facing spot, it's not really surprising.

SoS[25] - first really open snowdrop

31 Jan 2025 16
One of the front lawn snowdrops has opened a flower - with other buds growing up in the same clump.

A nice clump, from low down ...

SoS[25] - frosty 'drops

18 Jan 2025 4 1 53
More distant look at the first clumps of snowdrops poking up out of the front lawn. Yes, it was frosty ! [I took a closeup of another group] Will be keeping an eye out for the buds opening & I may image some other patches of 'drops.

SoS[25] - YAY !!! our first snowdrops {close-up} […

The first groups of snowdrop flower buds for 2025 poking up in the front lawn, became visible a few days after the snow melted. Finally ! - everything seems to be much slower this year ! I'll get them again when the flowers actually open. Plenty of other bulbs are starting to show above ground, so I'll need to watch where I'm putting my feet until they get a bit larger / more obvious.
