CoLC - paying less now [July 2023]

07 Jan 2024 1
This appears to be counter-inflationary, but the fuel prices in July 2022 were so very high as a result of ru55ia invading Ukraine and the sanctions consequently applied to ru55ia's oil & gas sales. It took some time for production elsewhere in OPEC to "pick up the slack" plus the artificial scarcity resulted in some "price-gouging" at pumps on the forecourts. 2ft gauge Type DH-25 [wksno 9332] was built by Hunslet in 1994, to a design by Jenbach. It has a Kubota diesel as the prime mover and weighs slightly under 3 tonnes. Originally supplied to a Singapore-based plant hire concern, but then had a somewhat peripatetic and world spanning career before returning to the UK in 2013. She can be used as the works shunter here, and there are similar examples at Woodhorn Mining Museum, Northumberland and in Wales.

clch - UK new car registrations by power source

22 Oct 2021 70
Considerable changes in the relative proportions over these two decades. The dip in car purchasing from the period of 2008 recession and the recovery show up quite well. There was another crash in 2020 from the affects of Covid pandemic. The number of electric cars is beginning to rise and by 2020 is much the same as that for diesels. Apart from the inefficient use of fossil fuels for private car as a mode of transport, diesels are regarded as "more polluting" - because of things like "particulates" - having said that, a badly maintained petrol car [one that "burns" lubricants] is also damaging to the environment. . .
