Information board for the Henge monument at Maelmin Heritage Trail.
Anno Domini has meant that some of the original carved posts have been replaced. Note that this "reconstruction" is not a replica for something that existed at this location.

Part of the route around the Maelmin Heritage Trail includes a section through woodland [more like a "shelter belt"] On the day we walked along here, there were a lot of fungal fruiting bodies peeking through the grass. [5 of 6]
Another bunch of fungus ... for scale, the trainer is about 4" / 10cm across at the point of lowest lace. From the bark and needles I think the tree is a Scots Pine.

A large fruiting body from an unidentified fungus - growing in grass under coniferous trees (mostly Scots Pine or maybe Larch) in a "windbreak" plantation. [date : 6th August]
There were a considerable number of other examples, all the others were smaller in diameter.
For scale, the trainer to the bottom right is approximately 100mm / 10cm / 4" across, as measured just forward of where the lacing starts.

The information board on the side of the reconstructed Dark Age house.
Thanks to some misbegotten vandals, it was locked shut.

Reconstruction of a "Dark Ages House" , based on archaeological evidence from other sites, including nearby excavations.
Thanks to some misbegotten vandals, it was locked shut.
JBT - welcome board

Informative start to our walk around the site.
Unfortunately, there were several indications that vandals had visited ...
[the main damage was the removal - theft - of the memorial plaque to the RAF Milfield personnel]
