A late season hoverfly tucking into a late flower, down by the river. . Research indicates that this is Helophilus pendulas, also know as a "sun fly" from their habit of basking in sunlight, explains how I got close enough for this photograph ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helophilus_pendulus Went back to check on the flowering plant, to see if I could make an identification. I think it is an Erysimum species, by the flower, the leaves are somewhat hairy ... there has been quite a patch of them in that area. Probably a garden escape, originally. The patch has had a long flowering season, producing largely white, or very pale pink flowers, with some strongly scented.

One of the several female blackbirds that live in / near to the garden - a couple of which are decidly not nervous of us people ...

Bella having a lie down after her mid-morning walk over the fell behind the house; she had a right tazz around - up, down and over all the various bumps and hollows - and herded us all back to the gate ... she's wanting the bowl of fresh water that's about to arrive.

Chunky hedgepig found at home - I think the wind shut the door behind her/him, as we found him in the outhouse. There had been food in the outhouse already and s/he was waiting to be let out ! methinks this is our regular visitor as s/he seemed not overly scared of us - more annoyed at being shut in for a few hours. Ate some more food and skedaddled sharpish !
