Iran is another nation that continues to inflict the death penalty. Sadly, it seems obvious to many commentators that the penalty is being used by a theocratic government to supress religious and other dissent [including protesting about enforced wearing hijab]. Additionally, "official" records significantly understate the numbers executed. note : Ramadan - the fasting period - is in April, which may go some way to explain the low numbers at that time. . .
