Unidentified "trammer" - probably "Andrew" on the basis of the black forefoot - with a "sunshade" toastrack at the Sea Terminal end of the horse tramway's route along Douglas Promenade.
[not actually at the Sea Terminal itself, but a few tens of yards along the promenade]
{Currently - 2023 - the progress of the promenade "revamp" has truncated the tramway at Broadway / Villa Marina. Planned to return to the Sea Terminal, but when, that is The Question}

Ian [a Clydesdale gelding] is providing the one horsepower for enclosed saloon tram No.1.
In the background are open toastrack No.42 and "Royal Tram" No.44 - the safety fence on the right is to segregate the MER [the low road] tramway terminus from the horse tram area.

Tram No.18.
double decker, originally built in 1890 by Metropolitan C&W [converted to single deck in 1904 and back again in 1989 during restoration]
current livery, deep red (maroon) with gold details, including the advertising panels [Okell's Brewery]
No.18 is used very rarely, normally pulled by two trammers and to reduce the weight is only partially loaded.

One horse-power provided by "Ian" - harnessed to Tram No.1 , an enclosed saloon for 30 passengers, built as a replacement in 1913.
As the ground shows, it's been a bit wet, hence the use of the saloons.
