RCH496 departing Baldonnel 26/09/2009. This was the first time a C-17 had visited BAL and it was also notable in that it had arrived with two former Guantanamo Bay detainees to whom the Irish Government had offered asylum.

The 1st C-17A to visit Baldonnel, 26/09/2009. RCH496 taking off on runway 29 just before dark. It was used to transport two former detainees of Guantanamo Bay who are being allowed to resettle in Ireland.
