A day trip to Teulada northeast of Calpe travelling on the metre gauge Alicante - Dénia Line. It is being seriously upgraded and last year Teulada was the end of train working, the rest of the journey being by bus. Amid the spectacular scenery of Snowdonia, Beyer-Garratt NGG16 2-6-2 + 2-6-2T 138 (1958), formerly of the South African Alfred County Railway, climbs the steep gradient south of Rhyd Ddu with the return train to Caernafon. This was my first trip on the railway and was definitely worth the visit. At this time the line terminated at Pont Croesor in the middle of nowhere a few miles north of Portmadog, a 45mile round trip, but today it runs the full length of the line to Portmadog.

The southern terminus of the former ESA metre gauge line from Alicante to Denia was at La Marina station and the original 1913 station building still stands. FGV (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana) tram 4231 is seen entering the station from the north on an L5 service which will terminate a few 100 yards off to the left at Puerta del Mar. HFF to everyone & have a great weekend.

Wernigerode Harz Germany 19th May 2016

07 Jun 2016 9 4 752
The 08.55 train from Wernigerode HSB to the Brocken pulled by metre gauge 2-10-2T 99 7234-0 leaves a smokescreen as it curves away from the main line and approaches Wernigerode Westerntor station off left. The former East German Brocken listening station & towers are on the mountain summit above the train. The Brocken station is adjacent and lies at 1125m, so the train faces a climb of 890m from this point to arrive at the top at 10.36.
