I just enjoyed a ride on this old bus between Quorn & Ruddington in Nottinghamshire but my bus-enthusiast friend tells me that rather than a standard Routemaster this bus RM121 is:
"...known as a 'Dartmaster', one of the buses that were refurbished by Marshalls of Cambridge for TfL a while back for route 13 and maybe some others. The engine is probably a four-cylinder something and not an AEC six with a new Allison auto-gearbox and not the four-speed original, and the winding windows have been replaced by hopper type".
(Quite a comfortable) HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.

What could be more welcoming than a warm coal fire on a cold December day? We had a mug of tea in the NAAFI under the road bridge at the GCR's Quorn & Woodhouse station and sat close to this crackling fire.
Meanwhile from time to time a steam engine would arrive with its train at the platform outside.

British Railways Standard 5 4-6-0 73156 runs non-stop through Quorn & Woodhouse station this morning with a Silver Driving Experience train for Leicester North.
The lineside clearance team were re-directed to fence painting at Quorn ahead of the Diesel Gala next weekend which was fine until it started raining!
So it's not just HFF to everyone but a freshly painted fence - HFPFF - to everyone. Have a great weekend.

We were clearing the lineside at Quorn when BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214 passed on the 10.00 service.
The family footplate team of Les & Pete were in charge of the 9F in the morning and gave us a wave. On the afternoon shift I had the pleasure to fire 92214 on the 14.00 train.
Not the best resolution because it's a screen grab from my video.

We were clearing the undergrowth alongside the Down Lie-by and I put my loppers down to grab this shot.
HFF to everyone and wishing you all a Happy, Peaceful, Healthy & Prosperous New Year.

Two shots were stitched to create this image of the footplate of Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48305 as we coasted down the hill from Quorn.
Bridge 340 and the Quorn Up Auto-Distant are visible through the cab window. If you really squint you can see the double yellow on the Down Auto-Distant. The only pressure gauge in view shows 10psi is going through the steam heating system.

Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45305 Alderman AE Draper arrives in Quorn & Woodhouse station with the 14.00 service to Leicester North. The model T Ford was built in 1924 only 13 years before 45305!
HFF to everyone & have a great weekend.

The Quorn Up Home signal is showing an emphatic green as Great Western Railway Hall 4-6-0 4953 Pitchford Hall makes a lively run into the station.
This is another shot taken during the Don Bishop photo charter yesterday. In fact in the distance the serried ranks of hi-vis'ed photographers can be seen.

We were trackside as part of the MIC Detonator demonstation. We had arrived on the fireman's training train behind 78018 earlier & run over our dets on the Up line. We had then detrained and were waiting for 78018's return to do the same on the Down.

The GCR bonfire was still burning but the fireworks were finished and we returned to Loughborough on the Class 101 diesel multiple unit. It is seen in Quorn station platform 2. The train on the right was for Leicester North.

Neil and myself crewed the 7F on a Russ Hillier photo-charter, together with 8F 48305, and it was raining most of the time, hence the storm sheet - not that it kept us dry!

Quorn and Woodhouse station & full semaphore signalling seen from the footplate of D1705 Brush Type 4 diesel approaching the station from the south. The Starter is pulled off for LMS Black 5 45305 waiting in the Up platform with a train to Leicester.
This station has been restored to LNER condition and is the typical design of the Great Central Railway's main line to London with one island platform and access down from the road overbridge. The signal box, Up goods yard to the right & Down lay-by to the left were also typical.
