Trains pass on the Quorn straight. We are on LMS Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48305 heading for Loughborough while BR Standard 2 2-6-0 78019 is on the Up line heading south. It had been misty in the morning but by our second trip it had cleared to reveal another grey day.

British Railways Standard 2MT 78019 in Woodhams Barry scrap yard in July 1970. Now to be found restored and in steam pulling trains on the Great Central Railway Loughborough

A busy scene in Loughborough Locomotive Works. Great Central Railway. BR 2MT 78019 under restoration, . The engine returned to steam late in 2004 but at this time the boiler was still out in the yard being worked on prior to reinstallation in the frames. The grey vertical pipe is a multiple blastpipe that was later replaced by a single blastpipe after a period of service. It steamed much more freely afterwards. After spending time at Tyseley having specialist firebox repairs carried out it returned to the GCR & is back in service.

British Railways Standard 2MT 2-6-0 78019 is brand new & just out of its box being in steam for the first time in Loughborough yard. Alongside is GCR 8K LNER O4 2-8-0 63601.

Great Central Railway. A firing turn on BR Standard 2MT 78019. I'm in Loughborough yard before working the afternoon train. The steam pressure looks healthy enough.

Great Central Railway. Time for tea but watch that steam pressure gauge, it's close to the "red line". Probably time to get the injector on before the driver of British Railways Standard 2 78019 closes the regulator by the last underbridge before Quorn station. The vacuum gauge, top left, shows a good 21" of mercury &, as it's 15th May, no need for steam heat so the small gauge is on zero psi - the steam valve (brass knob to the right projecting through the front window) is shut. Firing BR Standard 2 78019 on a service train en route to Leicester.
