Despite their withdrawal having been announced for some months ago the dreaded Pacers continue to spread misery across the north of England. These "nodding donkeys" were well to the fore of Thursday with one even heading to the sylvan delights of Alderley Edge. This one waits at Stockport before heading off for a bouncy and rattling journey all the way to Chester. We deserve better and this type of basic bus train would not be acceptable to the denizens of the south-east so why should it be in the north-west?

Oil pumped by the nodding donkey in the background is stored in tanks on this site for collection by road tanker. This makes it a bonded site with a range of draconian penalties for anyone caught removing the oil without permission from HMRC. Grange de Lings, Lincolnshire.

Pumps on wells at Wytch Farm. This is Europe's largest known onshore oilfield in one of the most environmentally sensitive areas of the UK. Its operations are on the southern shores of Poole Harbour, Furzey Island, Wareham and at Kimmeridge Bay. Perenco UK Limited took over the operation of the oilfield in December 2011. It is currently producing 19,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (crude oil, liquid petroleum gas and gas).
