West Burtion A is a coal-fired power station, which was commissioned in 1966, and West Burton B is a combined cycle gas turbine power station, commissioned in 2013. Both stations are owned and operated by EDF Energy. The A station generates 2,000 MW and was the first station of this capacity in Britain. It is scheduled for closure in September 2022. The B station has 3 Combined Cycle Gas Turbines with a total output of 1,332 MW. EDF has signed a binding agreement for the sale of West Burton B to EIG. EDF recently secured a Development Consent Order for a new gas-fired peaking plant power station of up to 299 MW at the existing West Burton Power Station site, known as West Burton C. This development consent will transfer to EIG under the terms of the sale of West Burton B.
