Pendle Hill.

13 May 2019 4 1 526
Pendle Hill photographed from a distance of about 4 miles / 6.5 Kilometres (cropped to remove uninteresting foreground). My "shooting" location was near the town of Reedley which is South-East of the hill. Pendle Hill is famous for its links to three events which took place in the 17th century: the Pendle witch trials (1612), Richard Towneley's barometer experiment (1661), and the visitation by George Fox (1652), which led to the foundation of the Quaker movement. A Bronze Age burial site has also been discovered at the summit of the hill. (Wikipedia). Camera: Nikon D500 Lens: AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED Software: Nikon Capture NX2

Newly-mown fields near the village of Winewall in the district of Pendle, North-West England. In the distance about 5 miles away is Pendle Hill which gives its name to the area and is the location of the famous / infamous "Pendle Witch" events of 1612. It is also where George Fox in 1652 claimed to have had his vision whilst on the summit which led to the formation of "The Religious Society Of Friends", better known as the "Quakers". The Pendle area has a long-standing connection with the movement and there is also a Quaker study, retreat and conference center named "Pendle Hill" located in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, USA. Winter view of Pendle Hill.

In 1652, during the early years of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), their founder George Fox claimed to have had a vision on top of Pendle Hill. "As we travelled, we came near a very great hill, called Pendle Hill, and I was moved of the Lord to go up to the top of it; which I did with difficulty, it was so very steep and high. When I was come to the top, I saw the sea bordering upon Lancashire. From the top of this hill the Lord let me see in what places he had a great people to be gathered. As I went down, I found a spring of water in the side of the hill, with which I refreshed myself, having eaten or drunk but little for several days before." (George Fox: An Autobiography, Chapter 6) Today Pendle remains strongly linked to the Quakers, giving its name to one of their centres for religious and spiritual study and contemplation in the United States. Foulridge and Noyna hill.

26 Aug 2013 7 7 1874
Noyna Hill (sometimes just called "Noyna" or "Noyna Rock") is a hill in the Pennine Hills range in Pendle, Lancashire. It is located a mile to the east of Foulridge village. On a clear day most of Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales can be seen from here. Although the prominence is not that great due to the close proximity of other hills, it is unique in the area for having a large wide, but not very high rocky outcrop that is distinctive and well known in the area. The hill is 122 metres (400 ft) above the village of Foulridge. The hill is on farmland, but has public footpaths that allow access. Storm clouds over Pendle Hill in Lancashire, England. Photographed from Brierfield looking North-West. It was very windy and the trees were waving around a lot making it difficult to get them sharp. I only bought this camera the previous day so I wasn't familiar with the functions and controls. Photographed with my new "walkabout" camera, a Sony RX100 compact and processed with Nikon Capture NX2 and PicMonkey. www.ipernity.com/group/england www.ipernity.com/group/sony.rx100/doc

Photographed from near the top of Pendle Hill using an Olympus AZ1 camera. This was one of my first digital cameras and it only had 3.2 megapixels but the results were usually quite good, considering the low resolution. SEE NOTES.
