This 16th Century building known as The Old Hall (built in 1536) was the former home of Alice Nutter, one of the accused "Pendle Witches" who was executed at Lancaster with nine others in 1612. Pendle Hill is famous for its links to three events which took place in the 17th century: the Pendle witch trials (1612), Richard Towneley's barometer experiment (1661), and the visitation by George Fox (1652), which led to the foundation of the Quaker movement. Alice Nutter was one of the accused "Pendle Witches" executed at Lancaster with nine others in 1612.
