In a beautiful valley at the base of the Andes, just east of Lago Maihue and Lago Ranco, a Dutch immigrant dairy farmer lived with his family. I stayed on the farm for a few days on several occasions. Richard Bartlesman van Elikenhuisen had a name that most Chileans could not pronounce but he was highly respected and known in nearby Valdivia.
