A splash of much-needed colour

22 Nov 2014 163
Sometimes, I get the feeling of need for colour in my photostream, and these two Pansies filled my need : ) Photographed at the Reader Rock Garden on 17 September 2014. I only noticed the teeny black and white insect when I edited my photo last night. I've seen similar insects several times - wish I knew what the ID is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pansy

Pansy

After a three hour walk at Carburn Park yesterday morning, during which we saw 42 species of bird, we walked past a couple of huge flower planters near the parking lot. Couldn't resist photographing this rather beautiful Pansy. I was out with a handful of friends for about 10 or 11 hours today in hot sunshine, botanizing the beautiful private acreage belong to Janel Butler and her family, west of Millarville, south west of Calgary. Janel and her son, Tristym, and his young sister, very generously showed us around and told us about all the birds that they can have around their farm. After being treated to much appreciated tea/coffee and strawberries part way through our day, we then called in to see the Handfields, owners of another acreage not too far away. They had been so generous last year (on 20th July), allowing us to botanize their beautiful land and showed the same hospitality today, despite the fact that they had no warning that we would drop by : ) We were extremely lucky to see a gorgeous pair of Evening Grosbeaks near their house! Hopefully, a couple of my photos will turn out OK. We meet such delightful people, who welcome us into their homes and let us explore their grasslands and woodlands. And now I feel TOTALLY exhausted and desperately in need of sleep!

Pansy face

Who can resist the cheery face of a little Pansy? This one was growing at the Reader Rock Garden late August last year. I was out briefly at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary around lunch time and then went on a walk at Confluence Park again all afternoon. Now I'm struggling to keep awake : )

Pansies

Thought I'd better dig a little way into my archives and find a flower that wasn't yellow, orange or red. Much as I love them, I think I may have overdosed on fall colours, LOL. These pretty Pansies were growing at Reader Rock Garden at the end of August.

Three more days, and it will have been one year since I first joined Flickr! Thank you all for your much appreciated friendship from various parts of the world, including right here on my doorstep. I really appreciate the time you take to have a look at the images I upload and if you leave a comment, too - well, that is wonderful! I have learned all sorts of things from viewing your photos - talk about being inspired! It's too bad that that thing called LIFE (which we all USED to have before joining Flickr!) interferes with the joy of browsing endless photos. I'm afraid that my LIFE (which includes painful knees that often cut short my time here, a computer that is almost grinding to a halt, and the slowing effect of "old age" that is encroaching much faster than I would like, LOL) seems to be getting in the way more and more. My apologies for not being able to keep up with everything here! My thanks, again. 1. Standing tall, with pride , 2. Manysprings , 3. Oh, no - she's BACK! , 4. Simplicity , 5. Pink , 6. Alone , 7. Such a pretty, even if "everyday", flower! Came across this little garden escapee this afternoon in North Glenmore Park.
