24 Feb 2012 160
Not sure if this is called a Great Eggfly butterfly or a Common Eggfly. or maybe they are both the same. Yes, the scientific name is the same. Depending on the angle from which you see this butterfly, there is a bright blue edging to the white spots. Also called the Blue Moon. Quite a beautiful tropical butterfly, seen in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo on 1st Sptember 2011. Wingspan is about 7–8½ cm (2.8"-3.3"). "Great Eggflies are found in Madagascar in the west, through to South and Southeast Asia, South Pacific islands (French Polynesia, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu) and occurs in parts of Australia, Japan and New Zealand. The Great Eggfly is a fairly common butterfly found in lightly wooded country, deciduous forests, thick and moist scrub and the greener parts of human habitation." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypolimnas_bolina
