Black-capped Chickadee

03 Feb 2008 169
A familiar, round bird, the Black-capped Chickadee is such a welcome sight on a cold winter's day. This little guy/gal flew into a spot of sunshine on the railing of a wooden bridge at Burnsmead, Fish Creek Park.

Appreciation and thankfulness

The small bunch of mixed roses that I bought recently have not lasted very long, unfortunately. A good job that I took some photos when I did. Amazingly, enough light came through my window on a gloomy, wet day.

Satisfied

Another photo from yesterday, of a little Black-capped Chickadee. Love their shiny little eyes.

In the pond

Do you think I can think of the correct name for these fish? It is on the tip of my tongue but not quite there. Anyway, there are several different kinds and colours of these big "goldfish" in a tiny pool inside the Calgary Zoo's Conservatory.

Bird of Paradise

I know these are popular flowers to photograph, but they really are spectacular. This one is growing in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo.

Amongst the cacti

There were just a few splashes of bright colour in the huge cactus room at the Calgary Zoo Conservatory, including this rather dainty flower.

Peacock feather

When I was at the Calgary Zoo recently, a Peacock was strutting fairly close by. He gave a bit of a shake and I saw this small, rather downy feather flutter to the ground. Me being me, I couldn't resist bringing it home and photographing it, LOL!

A little ruffled

These birds usually look very sleek, so this one caught my attention with its ruffled neck feathers. I really should remember to call in and see them each time I go to the Zoo, to check out the lighting. I was quite lucky this day.
