Stay strong, little Owlet

22 May 2009 195
The little owlet that fell from its nesting tree about three days ago still seemed to be doing fine yesterday. When I was checking on it yesterday, two Parks people arrived after getting a phone call about this little guy/gal. I showed them where Mom, Dad and the young sibling were perched and also took them to see this owlet. I think they thought it was best to just leave the owlet alone, seeing as the parents are being very protective of it. You do run the risk of the young one being rejected if you interfere. It will be interesting to see what decision is eventually made. I just haven't had time to get over to the park today, unfortunately, but I know two or three friends who are bound to have been checking.

Perfectly designed

Couldn't resist a close shot of this Sunflower that was growing in Jim Coutts' homestead garden. A group of us went south of Calgary to visit this amazing garden on Sunday. Jim is in the long-term process of changing his land back into its original, native grassland, but he also has spectacular gardens around his homestead home.

Red-sided Garter Snake

Much as snakes are definitely not my favourite creatures, I have to admit that I find the Red-sided Garter Snake quite beautiful.

I'm watching you!

Most times, I am greeted with closed eyes or a one-eye-open stare. Today, I was watched more closely. My visit was around noon, whereas I more often go in the late afternoon. This was #355 on 4th November 2006.
