SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 15 JUNE 2019 KEYS I've said it before........I really shouldn't be allowed to get carried away using filters in GIMP Photo Software! But, it has happened again :-) I think I added a Mirror Effect followed by applying, probably, a Brushify filter. I know, for sure, that I did add some Dream Smoothing :-) And, for 'Sight and Sound' I am adding a tenuous 'Dream' link to "Dreams of the San Joaquin" by Linda Ronstadt. This track, written by Jack Wesley Routh and Randy Sharp, is on Linda's 1998 album, "We Ran". Thank you very much :-) SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 22 SEPTEMBER 2018 "TAKE A PHOTO AND POST PROCESS IT TO ACHIEVE THE GOAL FOR YOUR SUBJECT" Over many years I have tried 'painterly' effects with varying degrees of failure and occasional success :-) A long time back I was pleased with the results from using the 'Art History Brush' in Photoshop 6. But the more I used this process the worse I got! A while back I came across the 'Dream Smoothing' filter in GIMP Photo software. I have been pleased with some of the results :-) I have previously uploaded a few photos where the effect was used but they were mostly using the default settings. GIMP says - "A relatively slow filter that uses anisotropic filtering to smooth an image. More iterations produces a softer image as does lower opacity values. Practical modes for merging are Alpha and Average. The results are resolution dependent". Of course I knew this :-))) This week I have spent a lot time trying different combinations of the settings. Already there appear to be endless combinations :-) The Arty border came from a free giveaway of Borders in 'Digital Photo' magazine from a long time back. Canons Ashby House is the ancestral home of the Dryden family. Clara Dryden, born 1859, was a gifted painter and painted many of the scenes at Canons Ashby including the interior of the house and the gardens. Polly Swann married Chris Dryden in 2000. Polly is a keen amateur photographer and had the idea to produce a book called "Canons Ashby Then & Now". This book features watercolours by Clara Dryden and photographs by Polly of the same scene shown side by side. It is remarkable how little has changed since 1710. I have been inspired by Polly's book to try a slight variation of Polly's idea. That is to take photographs of the house and gardens and then give my photos a painterly type effect. Over the years I have tried lots of different software/filters and a while ago I came across the "Dream Smoothing" filter in 'GIMP Photo' software. Maybe not to everyone's taste but I have grown to very much like the effect this filter produces :-)) Here is my first picture of the house given the 'Dream Smoothing' effect and this could be the start of more 'Dream Smoothing' Photos :-))) Also, a bit of a tenuous 'Sight and Sound' link but I have chosen "Picture Show" by John Prine & Tom Petty.
