Steps of Weston Library in Oxford

21 Jul 2019 4 12 205
When I was in Oxford I was thinking of coming up with a 'books' link for 'Sight and Sound'. "I am a Rock" by Simon & Garfunkel includes the lines - I have my books And my poetry to protect me When I saw the guy sitting on the steps of the Weston Library I thought "that's the photo I need". And, just as I pressed the shutter this lady rode by :-) The guy got up and walked away before I could take another shot! I'm afraid we'll just have to stick with this photo :-) Added to Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ Listen here ~ I am a Rock ~ Simon & Garfunkel

"Close the Door Lightly"

Explored! Thank you very much :-) These double-doors are inside the Weston Library in Oxford. I think the odd reflections are coming from in front of the doors and some must be from the street outside. I say this because it was almost black behind the doors :-) I am reminded of "Close the Door Lightly" that was written by Eric Andersen and my all-time fave version is by The Dillards from their 1970 album, "Copperfields" :-) Added to ~ Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Close the Door Lightly ~ The Dillards Maybe view on black, please :-)

Explored! Thank you very much :-) And, there's more.....i.e. another photo of the entrance to the Weston Library in Oxford :-) The Weston Library is full of books. Books are full of words. I'm sure some words are hard. So, I can now link my photo to "Words Are Hard" by Sara Niemietz :-) Great to see everyone having such fun :-) The guy playing acoustic guitar is W.G. Snuffy Walden. Explored! Thank you very much :-) I've walked past the Weston Library many times. I've stood near the entrance many times. I've walked through this entrance area and into the Library many times. But, until just recently, I had not seen this viewpoint as a photo possibility :-) Then I saw the cover of a book entitled "New Bodleian - Making the Weston Library" and the photo on the cover immediately made me think "yes, there are some photo possibilities for me here :-)) I hope the following link works. Oxford 'A to Z' is no more :-(

18 Feb 2015 6 12 351
The 'A to Z' hoarding in Broad Street is no more :-( Today in Oxford was sad because one of my fave photo places is now quite different. The 'A to Z' hoarding in Broad Street has gone! Now replaced, as you will see, by some non-photogenic metal barriers! These are to be removed soon. The redeveloped New Bodleian library building has been renamed as the Weston Library in honour of a £25 million donation given in March 2008 by the Garfield Weston Foundation toward its transformation into an advanced special collections library and cultural centre. The Weston Library is now open to readers and researchers of special collections. An official opening is planned for March 2015. The newly-renovated building will accommodate readers of Special Collections with excellent facilities for scholarship (info from the Bodleian Libraries website). Now, what shall I photograph? :-)
