Looking east.

Looking east from near the summit of Mt. Lola. The skylined range shadowed by the clouds is the Carson Range west of Reno. Lake Tahoe can be glimpsed behind the trees at right.

Summit of Mt. Lola

2787 m. Highest point in the northern Sierra Nevada, and accessed by a hiking trail that crosses the summit. Insets show some other views in the vicinity. Mt. Lola is named for Lola Montez, a 19th century showgirl and entertainer noted for her shameless self-promotion. The American Way, I guess-- ;)

White Rock Lake

A small Pacific Gas & Electric power reservoir in the upper reaches of the South Yuba River, on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada. Mt. Lola (9143 ft/2787 m) is the high point on the skylined ridge to the right of the pine tree. That's our destination--and we even made it! ;)

The dam for White Rock Lake. Thank you PG&E!

White Rock Lake

A small Pacific Gas & Electric reservoir in the upper reaches of the South Yuba River, on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. The fires haven't reached here yet, anyway. It's suspected that a spark from PG&E's equipment triggered the Dixie Fire, which is raging mostly out of control about 30 miles northwest. The insets show some other views in the vicinity, near the dam.

Webber Falls

Webber Falls on the Little Truckee River, swollen with the spring runoff! It will be a trickle by the end of summer.
