Fire on Slide Mountain after it's swept up the slope. Location is of the fire rather than the camera point. Telephoto view off my back patio--sorry about the wires!

Telephoto time exposure from my back patio. An ultralight crashed into Slide Mountain, on the west side of Washoe Valley, Sunday afternoon and started this fire. At least the wind wasn't blowing this way... The fire was pretty much out by Monday morning, and the area is now contained. They're saying the total burned area is about 64 acres. The location is of the fire itself rather than the photo point. Inserts show (left) the fire just after starting; and (right) after it had burned up the slope. It was nice the firefighters managed to hold it at the top of that slope!

Tracks to the mountain! Looking northwesterly. Slide Mountain is in the Carson Range, and gets its name from the enormous landslides that occasionally come off the sunlit side, most recently in 1983. The Mt. Rose Ski Area is to the right of those scarps--it is not actually on Mt. Rose. Taken from Washoe Lake State Park, Washoe County, Nevada, USA. This was a _much_ better snow year than this season...
