The sign reads, "These waters are entirely dedicated to livestock use from Jan. 1-Dec. 31 each year. NRS [Nevada Revised Statutes] makes any person who unlawfully diverts this livestock water guilty of a misdemeanor." So, watch out! As I comment elsewhere, this area is in the vicinity of the Burning Man countercultural festival held in late summer every year, and there may have been problems with diversions by campers! The flat in the distance is Black Rock playa, where the festival is held a bit south (to the left) of here.

Sign along the flooding North Fork of the Feather River, California. Due to the extraordinary water season, the river is pretty much a continuous series of Class V rapids, except where interrupted by some small power dams.

You have been warned-- Along the California Aqueduct outside Phelan, California, by the Sheep Creek Road bridge. Turns out the aqueduct _is_ open to fishing(!)

Off Shrine Pass Road, near Vail Pass on I-70. White River National Forest, Colorado, USA. My guess is the activity was from mountain warfare training for WW II. Camp Hale in the Pando Valley, which was the training center, is not too far away.
