First Communion with Gold Touches

04 Dec 2023 4 94
A First Communion tintype showing the commonly added pink cheeks and the less commonly added gold touches. (More easily seen in the largest image.) Her brooch, prayer book, and (strangely) her left ring finger have all been daubed with a tiny amount of gold. I would guess that this was probably taken in the 1890s but there's no way that I know of to date it exactly. Found in a Vintage Store on a visit to Connecticut, 2023.

Pink-Cheeked Man (Showing Up Faintly Here)

03 May 2023 3 80
It's interesting to me that the majority of tintypes I've seen add color to the cheeks of the subject. Man, woman, or child. Sometimes I've seen the jewelry highlighted with gold; rarely an article of clothing is colored; but the rosy cheeks appear to be a standard addition. I don't remember where I purchased this tintype. Possibly at the town-wide sale in Warrensburg, NY No information about the man is given.

Tintype Boy With Boater Hat

29 Sep 2012 92
Too bad the dog (or cat?) didn't have one of those stands to keep still. Although, it was apparently only somewhat successful for the boy (if that's what it is behind him.) Found in Warrensburg, New York, September 2012.

Little Girl With Folded Hands

05 Dec 2010 127
Found tintype in Ferrisburgh, Vermont. These boots look a little different than the usual high button boots. Any guesses at the year?

Munchkin Boy Tintype

Fairly damaged - still cute.

Smartly Dressed In The Bowery?

31 Jul 2010 158
This tintype shows a very fashionable couple with a very seedy looking back drop - or street shot in the wrong part of town. Tintype found in Vermont. Nothing to identify people or place.

Handsome Devil Tintype

Tintype - Springfield, Vermont Album

22 Mar 2009 223
Original is very dark. Found in the Halkard/ Grimshaw album. I would guess this is the 1870s. There are pictures from Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and a lot from the north of England, so I don't know where this was taken.

Morose Man in Breeches Tintype

Unmarked but I think he is one of the English contingent in the Halkard/Grimshaw album. I have no idea what this costume is all about but he seems to be rather lacking in the panache you'd need to make this a fashion statement.

Tintype of Pink Cheeked Girl

27 Dec 2008 7 4 359
Brought forward for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of spooky children. I actually never really saw her that way, but since I have had many comments over the years with people seeing her as creepy, and failing any other likely spooky children images, here she is! This is a favorite - I love her little face and her high button boots, her hat and her rather stringy hair. I bought this years ago in Connecticut. She always reminded me of Shelly Duval. : )
