Built for the pre-clinical laboratories of the Medical Faculty. If the new academic hospital was built on this spot, this laboratory could have been part of it, but the hospital was built elsewhere (and to a different design). The medical faculty moved out and now it is the Biology Department of the Science Faculty.

Biology moved from the Kaiserstraat to the Sylviusweg, but they have left their old sign on the building. The sign dates from the times that departments made their own logos, nowadays the university doesn't allow that, only the (beautiful) logo of the university is allowed.
