Jacobus

09 Sep 2023 30
The Jacobus of Van Laar Maritime has become a reasonable regular visitor to Sunderland, stopping by every couple of months. Here it is making the turn off Greenwells Quay prior to berthing at the latter.

Vedra

09 Sep 2023 30
Finally managed to get some better pictures of the small ship Vedra while it was working in the harbour. This picture also highlights the rather quirky construction with the 'step' in the middle of the cabin. PIP #1: A head on view of the Vedra.

Kristin C

09 Sep 2023 28
The cargo ship Kristin C arriving into Sunderland on a rather drab day.

Ingeborg Pilot

09 Sep 2023 25
The Ingeborg Pilot arriving into Sunderland on a stormy day. PIP #1: The ship turning off Greenwells Quay prior to going through the sea locks into Hudson Docks.

Arklow Rogue

09 Sep 2023 27
The unladen Arklow Rogue leaving the Hudson Dock.

Southern Ocean

05 Sep 2023 29
The large multi-purpose offshore vessel (MPOV) in the Wear channel off Greenwells Quay. The orange and blue colour scheme certainly made it a colourful visitor to Sunderland! PIP #1: Detailing of the ship's name on the helicopter deck. PIP #2: The Southern Ocean passing Greenwells Quay.

Arklow Valley

04 Sep 2023 1 28
The Arklow Valley is at least the seventh vessel of the extensive Arklow Shipping fleet to visit Sunderland in the last year

Multratug 19

04 Sep 2023 30
The tug 'Multratug 19' hauling the barge 'Bokabarge 7' towards Blyth off Sunderland. I am not sure what the cargo on the barge is, but I suspect they could well be pieces of a windfarm, with a number under construction locally.

Atlantis Araceli

04 Sep 2023 1 24
The Atlantis Araceli arriving into Sunderland.

Tina C

04 Sep 2023 27
A sunrise arrival into the Port of Sunderland. PIP #1: The Tina C passing Roker lighthouse with the Wilson Cadiz in the background. The latter has been moored offshore for the last week, apparently on standby for new orders.

Lindeborg

04 Sep 2023 1 29
The Lindeborg adds a splash of colour on a rather miserable day in Sunderland. PIP #1: The old name of Noorderlicht is still visible underneath the current one on the bow of the ship. Looking at the ship's history, it seems to have carried the Noorderlicht name for only a short time in 2019.

Eems Spirit

03 Sep 2023 1 34
The Eems Spirit arriving on a beautifully calm evening with a (hopefully) appreciative audience at Roker lighthouse. The ship is part of the extensive fleet of ships owned by Amasus Shipping, several of which have made appearances in Sunderland.

Scot Explorer

03 Sep 2023 1 30
Built in 2019, the Scot Explorer is a small cargo ship of Scotline shipping. Despite its name, the company is based in Rochester on the Thames estuary east of London and mainly operates liner services that visit ports on a fixed schedule. Here, the Scot Explorer is arriving into Sunderland from King's Lynn in north Norfolk.

RNLI Lifeboat - 17 34 'Osier'

03 Sep 2023 6 1 55
The Severn-class lifeboat 'Osier' paying a visit to the Roker lifeboat station. The latter currently operates only two Inshore Lifeboats with Tynemouth lifeboat station, where Osier is based, covering offshore operations. The name 'Osier' refers to a species of tree (Salix viminalis) found in Britain. PIP #1: Another view of the 'Osier'.

Spellbinder II

03 Sep 2023 26
An unusual visitor to Sunderland, the Spellbinder II is a dive vessel owned by Dive Spellbinder and is based at Tynemouth. An obvious feature is the hydraulic dive platform at the stern of the ship, with a pair of divers just about to use it. It also features a jet drive propulsion meaning there are no propellers that could pose a hazard to divers and others. Information from: www.divespellbinder.com/about

Baltic Harmony

03 Sep 2023 1 22
The cargo ship Baltic Harmony passsing Greenwells Quay on the way to mooring at the Corporation Quay at dusk. At over 22,000 tons, the ship is one of the largest ones to have arrived into Sunderland in the last year.

Eraclea

24 Jul 2023 36
The tug Eraclea towing a barge with an unusual structure off Sunderland. The ship tracking websites showed the Eraclea departing Vlissingen on 17 July, with a destination of Blyth. It spent most of the day drifting offshore, possibly waiting for the northerly swell to recede.

Nordic Sund

24 Jul 2023 1 1 47
The Norwegian flagged Nordic Sund passing Roker lighthouse on the way to berthing in the Hudson Dock. Formerly known as the Clipper Sund, the ship is a small chemical tanker, with the previous port of call being Rouen in France.
