Tourist Boat on Orlik, Closeup Version, Stredocesk…

05 Feb 2024 58
I made this version in an attempt to better identify this boat, but to reiterate I think it's either the Zvikov or the Otava.

Tourist Boat on Orlik, Stredocesky kraj, Bohemia(C…

05 Feb 2024 63
This boat is one of a fleet of nine vessels operated by Orlicka lodni doprava between Orlik and Zvikov, two surviving castles on the reservoir, which both predate the reservoir by many centuries. I have been unable to identify this specific boat, but judging from the paint scheme it looks like either the "Zvikov" or the "Otava." The website for Orlicka lodni doprava is here: www.orlickalodni.cz

Panta Rei Cavitating, Zurich, Switzerland, 2011

05 Oct 2012 193
Our visit to Zurich concluded with a cruise on Lake Zurich on the Panta Rei, seen here docking. That cavitation from the bow appears to be from some sort of turbine or propeller that helps the boat steer, especially in a situation like this.

Vltava on the Vltava in Winter, Prague, CZ, 2010

19 May 2010 1 1 347
The Vltava, that is, the boat called "Vltava," is one of the older-looking boats in service on the River Vltava, although I don't know exactly how old it really is, or even if it's actually steam, the way its appearance suggests. I don't think I've ever even ridden on it. In this picture, it was docked for the winter.

Tourboat "Andante," Prague, CZ, 2009

29 Jul 2009 315
There was, as usual, a lot of other traffic on the river, mostly tourboats and private boats rather than ferries, though. This was the "Andante,"; a tourboat.

Vysehrad from Ferry "Blanice," Prague, CZ, 2009

29 Jul 2009 302
After we got underway, the main scenic attraction on the way was Vysehrad, seen here.

Ferry "Blanice," Picture 3, Prague, CZ, 2009

This was a shot that I took not from the bridge (as in boat control room), but from behind it, as there are windows both in the front and the rear on the "Blanice."

Ferry "Blanice," Picture 2, Prague, CZ, 2009

The "Blanice" even had a PID logo on the side, which come to think of it is a bit unusual, as most PID services carry the markings of their constituent operators only.

Ferry "Blanice," Prague, CZ, 2009

This was the PID ferry for Cisarska Louka, the "Blanice."

Swans and Ducks in the Vltava at Dvorce, Prague, C…

29 Jul 2009 345
While I was waiting for the ferry, I took a large number of duck and swan photos, and even a video or two. This was the one I decided to post.

PID Ferry Sign, Dvorce, Prague, CZ, 2009

29 Jul 2009 328
I took the tram to Dvorce not to get another tram or bus, but actually to take one of the new PID (Prazska Intergrovana Doprava) ferries. These ferries have the same old DPP maps and schedule sheets as the trams, Metro trains, funiculars, and buses, even though they don't run officially under DPP. The DPP passes are, however, valid on them, same as on Ceske Drahy, as CD, DPP, and the ferries are what make up PID.

Dvorce Weigh Station, Dvorce, Prague, CZ, 2009

29 Jul 2009 1 378
This is the old Dvorce weigh station, or so I'm told. it isn't actually for weighing trams or trucks, but actually for weighing boats. How it works, however, is unclear to me, as there doesn't appear to be a lock to put the boat in.

Swansea Harbor, Picture 2, Swansea, Wales (UK), 20…

12 May 2009 403
Swansea has always been a port city, of course, but today most of the traffic is in small boats. I'm pretty sure this is some kind of tug or ex-tug, although someone who knows ships or boats better could probably give more information. I do note that this one doesn't have any tires on it for padding so......

Rowboats In The Vltava, From Palackeho Most, Pragu…

I just saw this photo and decided that it was perfect. My only regret was that I was carrying my Lomo and not my Ikoflex!! :-)
