When I did my second walking tour of Stara Linka 011, I decided to go as far as hikers are currently allowed (the line isn't fully converted yet, I found out). I took some photos, and did a video (I can't decide whether to post it yet), but some of my most interesting shots were of buildings. I shot this one because of the old Redua Cokolada (Chocolate) ad. I've never seen Redua in stores, so I'm assuming the company is out of business. In addition, because the Communists placed substantial restrictions on advertising (with many exceptions like Skoda, Bata, and so on), I was wondering if the company predated 1948.

These were blocks of flats on the final curve as Stara Linka 011 heads into Hlavni Nadrazi. The yellowish coloring is from the setting sunlight.

Modernist Architecture In Zizkov, Prague, CZ, 2009

04 Aug 2009 263
It's funny what you find in Prague if you look. These very modernist buildings are tucked away in a side street in Zizkov. The reason why I was in Zizkov on this particular evening was that I was going to see the first of the United Islands of Prague performances at Club Matrix, one of 17 venues selected for June 18th, the first day of the festival, one day before the main stages on the islands opened. On this night CCTV All Stars, the Spankers, and Green Smatroll played, but I left after the Spankers set, as I recall.

Of of Na Prikope is this rather interesting street, Ne Kazanka, crossed by ornate pedestrian bridges linking the buildings. I liked the look of this so much that I took four shots, and decided to post them all on Flickr and iPernity.

Liberecky Zamek, Liberecky Kraj, Bohemia(CZ), 2007

I'm fairly sure that this is either a castle, school, barracks, or monastery in Liberec, but I have to do some more research. If anyone can help me, I would be grateful.

Buildings, Namesti Republiky, Prague, CZ, 2006

Yaaaagh!!! This photo is a mess!!! Well, actually, that's kind of the point. Prague buildings are often so intricate that they're really hard to take in. I chose this odd angle because it was the best way to bypass all of the construction and other chaos that's enveloping Namesti Republiky right now. In spite of it all, though, it's actually better to visit it in person, as you can ignore construction, whereas the camera can't. :-)

Vychodoceska Muzeum, Hradec Kralove, Kralovsky Kra…

The Vychodoceska Muzeum (Museum of East Bohemia) in Hradec Kralove is as much known for its own architecture as for its collections. Designed by Jan Kotera (1871-1923, often confused with his student Josef Gocar, 1880-1945) in 1909, it was completed in 1912, and is now considered one of 's masterpieces, as well as one of the best surviving examples of cubist architecture in the world.

Building Sculptures, Dukelskych Hrdinu, Prague, CZ…

I took this with my Lomo 135BC, and it actually worked!!! This building is on Dukelskych Hrdinu in Prague, but I don't know much else about it. The main business on the ground floor is a pizza place, which isn't what you would expect given the glamourousness of everything above.
