This is the sort of scene I was hoping to see this Spring but the weather was against me and I'm not yet 100% sure I've got quite enough stamina back yet. Oh well ... This is a previously unshown shot from the last time I walked in this granite wonderland; 25/05/2019. Four whole years ago. It doesn't seem real somehow! Sight and Sound. Eric Burdon and War. Tobacco Road. An all time favourite. Long but worth it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF87aqqmf4Q

Cantueso. The name of this lavender variety. It used to be thought of as the same as a similar-looking Provençal variety; it looks the same. But DNA profiling proved it was distinct. By the way, the two top 'petals' are in fact modified leaves. ADDED NOTE: It seems I was misinformed. This Wilki link is more accurate and up-tp-date! es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavandula_stoechas

From the public gardens of the Canal de Isabel II (a waterworks company) across Calle Santa Engracia (my street) and to 'Fire Station Number I, Madrid', the oldest fire station (1892). The light was very bright that day and the pollution non-existant (still far fewer cars on the roads and far fewer planes above - in fact last week I heard a noise and thought; 'what on Earth is that?' ... Of course it was the near-forgotten sound of an aircraft!!)

From EL Cancho Gordo looking along the eastern section of the ridge towards Pico de La Miel. Lavender grandstanding it in the front as usual at this time of year! on 'z', perhaps.

Honeysuckle. La Sierra de La Cabrera.

Early summer and still verdant. This won't last! By the end of June all is parched. Pico de La Miel: skyline, a little to the left of centre.

I went to see if I could get some wild tulip and poppy shots yesterday. No joy. I got Spanish lavender and orchids instead! Wonderful walking country and more or less undiscovered with Madrid only 25 miles away!
