There were not many wildflowers still blooming when we did the Railroad Grade trail on September 2, but we did find these Great Purple Monkeyflowers or Lewis' Monkeyflowers, Erythranthe lewisii, in a damp area.

The Seep-srping Monkeyflower is a common spring wildflower in our area but always lives up to its name. It is always found in wet areas. This example was photographed in Washington Park near the coast, but the plant is found at much higher elevations where it blooms much latter.

Mimulus lewisii is a common but beautiful wildflower in the Cascades. This example was photographed by my wife with her old PS camera on a hike to Lake Ann.

The Seep-spring Monkeyflower, Mimulus guttatus, is a very common wildflower in our area, but always beautiful. These were photographed along the Hurricane Ridge Road in Olympic National Park.

The next few days I'll be posting some wildflower pictures from Washington Park on Fidalgo Island. These were taken several weeks ago on our first visit to the park for the year. This small spring bloomer is also known as the Common Western Monkeyflower, Mimulus guttatus.
