In April we hiked the South Kaibab trail in Grand Canyon National Park to Skeleton Point, a hike of around seven miles with 2000 feet of elevation loss and gain, to Skeleton Point. This was the view at that point.

In April we were in Grand Canyon National Park and hiked the South Kaibab trail to Skeleton Point, the relatively level area to the left of the photo. From Skeleton Point the trail drops further down into the canyon and to the Colorado River. That part of the trail is visible near the center of the photo.

We met this mule train coming up the South Kaibab trail in Grand Canyon. There are no roads into the canyon and the only way supplies (and sometimes visitors) reach the Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon is on mules.

Taken along the South Kaibab Trail on our way to Skeleton Point, we were at about two miles and 2000 feet down into Grand Canyon.

While in Grand Canyon National Park last month we twice hiked down into the canyon, though not all the way to the river. One of those hikes took us down the South Kaibab trail to Skeleton Point. I could not find an explanation of the name, but this is the view from where we ended our hike, three miles (5 km) and two thousand feet (610 m) down into the canyon. On another note, we will be away today and tonight and so I will not be returning comments until tomorrow morning. We have a short trip to western Washington for a graduation.

This is the South Kaibab trail in Grand Canyon. At this point we were half-way to our destination at Skeleton Point, a couple of miles and 1000 feet down into the canyon.
