This was taken near the top of the ridge and shows the abundance of wildflowers growing on the ridge. The flowers in this photo are primarily Lupines, Arrowleaf Balsamroots, and Cushion Phlox.

Olympic Flower Garden

One of the reasons we try to get to Olympic National Park as often as we possibly can is the incredible show of wildflowers in the park. This photo was taken along the Hurricane Ridge Road, one of the best places to see the park's wildflowers. The flowers in the picture include the Western Wallflower (yellow-orange), Sub-alpine Lupine (blue), and the Slender Paintbrush (orange or red).

This was one of the trails we hiked in the Greenwater area north of Mount Rainier National Park last summer. The lupines were in full bloom and it was a beautiful sunny day, but the sunlight and shadow made photography somewhat difficult.

Lupine

I did not have a wildflower book along when I took this shot, and the lupines are hard for me to identify without a reference at hand. Photographed at about 5500 feet elevation in the Cascades north of Mount Rainier.
