We've been away for several weeks and have been very busy as well. This was taken in Canyonlands National Park in Utah. We left home on the 26th of April and drove to Canyonlands where we spent two days hiking and exploring the park and the area of Moab, Utah. From Canyonlands we headed south to Texas, first to hill country west of San Antonio where we spent a day at Garner State Park and the Rio Frio where we used camp with our family. From Garner we went to San Antonio and picked up our oldest daughter who had flown in from Belfast. With her we went to Big Bend National Park and spent a week hiking and camping and then went back to San Antonio and spent several days there before leaving her at the airport and heading home. On the trip home we went from temperatures of 100F (38C) in Texas to 15F (-9C) in southern Idaho and from dust storms in Texas, New Mexico and southern Utah to a blizzard in the mountains southeast of Salt Lake City. It was a very good trip, however, and we will probably do something similar next year.

On the second day of our visit to Joshua Tree National Park we first hiked the Hidden Valley trail and then headed north to the Wall Street Mill trail. That trail ends at an old gold mining mill but we took a long time getting them because we found an area full of wildflowers and stopped to photograph them. This is the Birdcage Evening Primrose or Basket Evening Primrose, huge flowers on a tiny plant. We saw them again along the trail but these were a first for us.

There wasn't a lot blooming when we visited the Bass River Recreation Area in Western Michigan in September, but what we saw we photographed, including these Common Evening Primroses.
