I am posting two photos of Death Valley because we are headed there very early Monday morning. We'll go first to the Moab area of Utah and visit some of the parks there, Goblin Valley, Blue Valley, Arches and Canyonlands, and then go on to pick up our oldest daughter in Las Vegas and from there to Death Valley where we'll spend a week. The photo is from a loop hike up through Golden Canyon and back through Gower Gulch and shows the end of the trail as we exited Gower Gulch back into the valley. The Sierra Nevada is in the background across the valley. The hike is spectacular and goes to Zabriskie Point in the mountains on the east, if a side trail is followed from the top of the loop.

The last day in Yosemite we hiking the John Muir Trail to Lower and Upper Cathedral Lakes. This was the view to the northwest from the shore of Upper Cathedral Lake.

This is Cathedral Peak from Upper Cathedral Lake, taken on a hike along the John Muir Trail in Yosemite National Park.

As we hiked from Upper Gaylor Lake to the site of the old Sierra Silver Mine, this was the view back down the trail. The peak is Gaylor Peak and the ridge over which hiked to reach the lakes is just beyond the peak.

Taken along the main road in Yosemite National Park, the peaks in the photo are the Three Brothers. We were on our way to the trailhead for Mist and Nevada Falls and stopped here to take some photos.

The day we spent in Yosemite Valley was spent hiking the Mist Falls and Nevada Falls trails. The hike was fairly strenuous and very busy. It is one of the most popular trails in the park, but we did it anyway though we had trouble finding parking at the trailhead. When finished with the hike we got some snacks at the visitors' center before going on to our campsite and the northern part of the park.

This panorama of the Sierra Nevada was taken near Independence, California. It is one of the few photos of our recent trip to southern California taken with my phone.

This is another photo of Fossil Falls, a dry falls in a volcanic area east of the Sierra Nevada which is visible in the background.

I believe this is Lone Pine Peak in the Sierra Nevada of southern California. The photo was taken near the town of Independence, California, as we traveled south for a conference.

We were recently in southern California for a conference and on our way there we had some extra time and stopped at a state park, Fossil Dry Falls, a volcanic area through which a river with a waterfall once rain. The photo shows the old river bed and the water worn rocks just above what was once a waterfall. The Sierra Nevada is in the background.

Taken from Yosemite Valley, this photo shows Half Dome in the evening light.

Taken from a viewpoint on the Wawona Road as we came into Yosemite from the south. Half Dome is just visible in the background with El Capitan looming on the left.

The photo shows El Capitan and Yosemite Falls from the the Yosemite Valley.

Half Dome is in the center of the photo and the edge of El Capitan on the left. Taken last winter when we were in Yosemite for a few days.

Taken in Yosemite National Park last winter when we were therefor a few days. We are hoping to go back in October for another visit. El Capitan is on the left and Half Dome near the center in the background.

Taken from a viewpoint along the Merced River, this is Yosemite Valley.

Taken from the Upper Falls trail this was one of our last views of Yosemite Valley and Half Dome. We left the park the next morning and headed for King's Canyon and Sequoia.
