Muskeg along the Auke Nu trail in Tongass National Forest, Alaska, the photo taken on a 2015 trip to Alaska. We had stopped at Juneau for ferry repairs and spent the time hiking.

Taken on a 2015 trip to Alaska, this was along the Auke Nu trail near Juneau - note the Red-breasted Sapsucker on the tree, though unfortunately this was as close as I could get.

I love the way the mountains fade from green to blue and then through different shades of blue as they vanish into the distance. Here's an effort to capture that from the Alaska Ferry as we traveled from Ketchikan to Juneau.

This was photographed along the Spaulding trail near Juneau while we were hiking there. I think I have the identification correct. If so it is Eriophorum angustifolium and it was everywhere in the boggy areas.

This dragonfly is the Four-spotted Skimmer, Libellula quadrimaculata. It is, as Sonja has pointed out, the state insect of Alaska. It was photographed along the Auke Nu trail above Juneau while we were hiking there.

Our ferry was delayed eight hours in Juneau due to mechanical problems and we used the time to do some hiking. We hiked the Auke Nu trail and part of the Spaulding trail north of the city. The hikes were not the most inspiring hikes we've been on but it was far better than sitting on the ferry all those hours. These sedges were photographed along the Spaulding trail.
