For a change of pace I decided to post some of my orchids. This orchid species is from the Himalayas and is sometimes referred to as the "Brain Pouch Slipper Orchid." It has beautiful mottled foliage, a rather rare feature in orchids. I've posted two different varieties, the one without any of the darker coloring, an "albino," and the other the normal form.

Paphiopedilum venustum is a small species of Lady's Slipper from India, Nepal and Bangladesh. It has beautifully patterned leaves and these lovely flowers. The ordinary variety of the species has flowers with some purplish-red color which is lacking in this variety. This was a first-bloom seedling but I've bloomed the other variety, shown in the inset, many times.

This tiny orchid species looks like a miniature Vanda, with alternating strap-shaped leaves. The whole plant is only about an inch across while the individual flowers are only about a quarter of an inch, but it produces numerous (as many as 25) very colorful flowers on each flower spike and often produces many spikes. The species comes from India, Myanmar, Thailand and China.
