RHH's photos with the keyword: ice cave

These caves are on the leading edge of Robson Glacier on the lower slopes of Mount Robson. They change from year to year, of course, and sometimes are not accessible. We found them large enough to be able to walk into them on this trip. From the outside they are simply dirty gray holes in the ice, as the imbedded pictures show, but once inside they are magically transformed by the light shining through the ice. We did not go farther than the entrance, however, since they are very dangerous, as well as very cold and wet.

Much larger than they appeared from a distance, I am dwarfed by the size of this cave. The picture was taken by my wife and fellow hiker.

In Explore August 1, 2009, #82. One of the ice caves on the edge of Robson Glacier and the only one big enough to enter. Though nothing special from outside, the caves were magical inside with the light shining through the ice.
