Siena. I don't know what these small bridges between houses are really called! I also don't know whether they are for communal use, or do they connect two sides of the same family dwelling?

Scenes from the Life of St Francis of Asissi

Bardi Chapels, Santa Croce. One of the major reasons I wanted to visit Florence was to see the frescoes of Giotto. There were several problems with photographing these: I was new to my camera (and photography, for that matter), flash is not allowed, you are required to stay a certain distance away, and the condition of the frescoes is poor. These are my excuses, anyway! www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/html/g/giotto/s_croce/index.html

Lantern of the Duomo

The lantern is the adornment structure, usually octagonal, atop a cathedral dome. This element was also designed by Brunelleschi after a lengthy design competition. He was forced to "audition" for this portion of the dome due to running afoul of the wardens of the cathedral with his hot temper. It was completed in 1471. Needs work

In the central tourist part of Florence, it was unusual to see a building in a state of deterioration. It caught my attention for that reason.
