Morning town ride

A trip to the SVR (Severn Valley Railway) gives us a chance to see the GWR 1450 at Bridgenorth. A Collett class 0-4-2T designed to work on small branch lines and first started service at Oxford in 1935. After 14,000 miles it has now been sent for its boiler overhaul. Besides this most charming engine we have the luxuriant fence and lamp which are all in keeping. Enjoy full size! HFF, enjoy the weekend.

Rails, fences and steam in Devon

Enjoy this oldie seen at the South Devon Railway station at Buckfastleigh taken some twelve years back. See here the GWR 5542, a Collet 4500 Class 2-6-2T (Tank Engine) that was built at Swindon in 1928 to a design by Churchward. If it looks rather unusual, that’s because another steam engine is just poking its nose out in front of this too. I think you will agree, a rather enjoyable shot of fences even without the engine. Enjoy full size on black. HFF, have a great weekend.

Visions of Park Bridge: Ye olde pump house.

This little corner was part of the coal colliery that was sited here. It will have certainly have housed a steam engine as running from here and still present is a small water-way that leads to the weir. Later in its life it was also used in conjunction with the nearby iron works. To me, it has always been a ruin, that should not be a surprise as the cessation of coal mining here was in 1887. Nice full screen.
