Die Verdonschlucht, französisch Gorges du Verdon, umgangssprachlich auch Grand Canyon du Verdon, ist eine Schlucht in der französischen Provence, Département Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Sie beginnt flussabwärts nach der Stadt Castellane und endet nahe Moustiers-Sainte-Marie im Stausee Lac de Sainte-Croix. Durch den etwa 21 km langen und bis zu 700 Meter tiefen Canyon fließt der türkisfarbene Fluss Verdon. Die Gorges du Verdon sind neben der Tara-Schlucht einer der größten Canyons Europas und Hauptbestandteil des nach ihm benannten Regionalen Naturparks Verdon.Die Schlucht ist am Grund zwischen 6 und 100 m breit, die gegenüberliegenden Flanken sind zwischen 200 und 1500 m voneinander entfernt und die Tiefe variiert zwischen 250 und 700 m. The Gorges Du Verdon (in French: Les Gorges du Verdon or Grand canyon du Verdon), in south-eastern France (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), is a river canyon that is often considered to be one of Europe's most beautiful. It is about 25 kilometres long and up to 700 metres deep. It was formed by the Verdon River, which is named for its startling turquoise-green colour, one of the location's distinguishing characteristics. The most impressive part lies between the towns of Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, where the river has cut a ravine to a depth of 700 metres through the limestone mass. At the end of the canyon, the Verdon River flows into the artificial lake of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon (in French: Lac de Sainte-Croix). Because of its proximity to the French Riviera, the gorge is very popular with tourists, who can drive around its rim, rent kayaks to travel on the river, or hike. The limestone walls, which are several hundreds of metres high, attract many rock climbers. It is considered an outstanding destination for multi-pitch climbing. Der Tag danach: Am 15.06.2010 tobte in Südfrankreich ein Unwetter. Auf dem Foto ist die Mündung des Verdon in den See zu erkennen. Man sieht auch den Dreck und die Wasserverfärbung, die nach den 24-stündigen, heftigsten Regenfällen, durch den Verdon in den See gespült wurden. PIP: hier sieht man die Wasserfälle, die auf die Strasse stürzen und den Unrat, der durch den Fluss in den See gespült wurde. Der Verdon (im Mittelalter Virdones) ist ein Fluss in Frankreich, der in der Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur verläuft. Er entspringt in den französischen Seealpen, im Gemeindegebiet von Allos. Seine Quelle befindet sich nordwestlich des Col d’Allos, an der Südflanke des Gipfels Tête de la Sestrière (2575 m). Der Fluss entwässert generell Richtung Südwest und mündet nach 166 Kilometern unterhalb von Vinon-sur-Verdon, jedoch bereits im Gemeindegebiet von Saint-Paul-lès-Durance, im Rückstau der Barrage de Cadarache, als linker Nebenfluss in die Durance. Der Verdon durchquert auf seinem Weg die Départements Alpes-de-Haute-Provence und Var, deren Grenze er in weiten Teilen seines Verlaufs bildet.
