Brunico #1

Vacation in Italy, at last... First stop after the Alps: Brunico (Bruneck), in the far North. Coffee and “bathroom”.
Brunico is a clean, well-preserved town, and only few houses like this one can be found. They are kept in this state to humour photographers.
After our return home, I heard from our editor-in-chief that Brunico is the place where he was born (I always thought it was Bolzano). Strange coincidence...

The whole world is Robbie’s bathroom (no worry: we carry “doggy bags”), so we had also to go for a walk. Our daughter Cora was disappointed: Brunico is far too “German” for a foreign country. “This ain’t Italy” ... yet.

View from our balcony

The view from our balcony on the mountains (if we are lucky) and the valley of the river Isar is always different and never boring. Sometimes, in the early morning, there’s a mist hanging over it, which means that you don’t see much, but what you can see is exquisite...

A busy Sunday. After a couple of hours my company was hungry: we had to retreat for catering, and I decided to take this Richardian shot.
Take a look at the glass: it reads “Aktienbrauerei Kaufbeuren”, since 1308, yet another Bavarian brewery with a long tradition. Though I emptied the glass on the left personally, I cannot tell if the beer is as good as its tradition suggests: it had been filled with juice –I was that day’s driver.

This part of the inn was where the malt had been stored once. Its brick vault supplied the photographer with a nice motif.

Steingaden is an old Bavarian town. Some shops still have signboards indicating the business of the shop owner.
Wessobrunn

There are three wellsprings at Wessobrunn, revealed to Duke Tassilo in a dream while he was sleeping beneath a nearby lime tree (as the story has it).

Duke Tassilo III is said to have rested under this lime tree in the year 753. A nice story. I like it better than the sober estimation of the tree as being only 800 years old...

Robbie accompanies us everywhere. On a trip to Middelburg we needed some rest –he would have preferred action...
