The four Castles of Lastours
The Castles of Lastours were built between 11. and 13. Century. Cabaret, Surdespine and Quertinheux were center of the Cathar religious activities. During the Albigensian Crusade they were attacked several times. They capitulated in 1211 and had been destroyed completely. In 1260 the Catholics built the fourth castle, Tour Regine, as a symbol of victory of the North of France and the Catholicism over the rebellious South. 1905 the four castles got the status of 'monuments historiques'.
